Casual dining in Venice

Hello, I Will be staying in Venice for a week in April and will be looking for some nice out-of-the-way restaurants.. I have some favorites from previous trips, would love to hear about other favorites... I will be staying near the Accademia in Dorsoduro, not that that should have any bearing of where to dine...
thanks in advance for any info

These two recommendations, which are both starting to get a little bit long in the tooth, are both casual, and enjoyable. Search "peoceto" or "falciami" and you will find several good threads on moderately priced Venetian restaurants - - though Ai Falciami is not "out-of-the-way" at all.

Best wises,

Rex

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi rupert,

What's your budget?

rupert Feb 21st, 2004 01:09 PM

Not sure Ira, $50-70 per person not including drinks...heck the dollar doesn't go as far as it did on my last trip there...so maybe more...I tend to enjoy the friendly family restaurants, hidden gems..that the locals frequent..they seem to be more fun...

BTW..thanks Rex...

You're welcome... and I don't think that csual dining costs THAT much. My idea of casual would be UNDER 30 euro per person (39 USD today).

Good then I can spend the rest on wine...
I just didnt want to rule out any very special places that anyone knows of..

Osteria Sant' Elena (also known as Dal Pampo) is a nice family-run place in a residential area beyond the giardino and not far from the soccer stadium. (You asked for out-of-the-way!) Pleasant dining room, with Mama in the kitchen and Papa serving. I think it's listed in Fodor's rated restaurants.

Hi

My wife and I went to Venice in June last year. We had our best meal at a place called Trattoria Antica Bessetta in San Polo. I have written a "review" of it and posted some pictures together with a trip report on my personal homepage www.gardkarlsen.com :-D Maybe you can find some useful information there. Have a great trip

Hi Rupert,

We enjoyed Cantinone Storico 041.523.95.77

about 125E for two with wine.

Go to the Accademia Bridge. Walk away from the canal toward the Accademia. Bear left. Make first left. Go over the bridge to San Vio. Restaurant is on the right, on the canal

We liked Le Bistrot de Venise a lot. It's halfway between Piazza San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. Website: www.bistrotdevenise.com

HI
see if you can get your hands on a book (it happens to be written by a fodorite) called
Chow Bella--it has many great recommendations for dining in Venice.
Amazon has it.
Gustafson's Cheap Eats in Italy is also excellent.

I think Elaine meant Chow Venice.
