Castles near Canterbury?
 

Does anyone know of any castles to stay in near Canterbury?

Hello <BR> <BR>"Staying" in a castle is possible, but not actually in Canterbury - The nearest over-night Castle accommodation I could find was "Amberley Castle" in Arundel ~ 2 hours drive away. <BR> <BR>http://www.amberleycastle.co.uk/ <BR> <BR> <BR>I know Leeds or Hever or even both cater for wedding receptions, one of which I think allows the bride to stay at the Castle, but I don't think they cater for the masses. <BR> <BR>

Again, this might be a bit out of the way, but I saw from a previous post that there is a possibility that you can stay at Hampton Court (I'm not sure which bit - you have to send for the handbook).. <BR> <BR>http://www.landmarktrust.co.uk <BR> <BR>Hampton Court is about 1 1/2 hours (78 miles from Canterbury).. <BR> <BR>If it were me, a couple of hours driving wouldn't put me off. Remember you have the chance to spend a couple of nights in a unique place that you probably would never get the chance to do again.. <BR> <BR>Anyhow, good luck with your plans..

There are a lot of country house hotels but I don't know of any castle hotels in Kent or east Sussex. <BR> <BR>As for the suggestion re Hampton Court Palace - The Landmark trust has a cottage and a flat within the Palace - but they are almost fully booked year-round. You usually have to book them a year or more in advance.

I've stayed at Amberley Castle (see Jayne's post) and it is lovely! Very individual rooms deep within the walls of the castle. Lovely gardens, excellent food. Part of the castle is ruined, part has been restored, one really has the impression of living in a "real" castle.
