Castles in Ireland

Has anyone been to Ashford Castle in Ireland? Would you recommend it?

merri,
Check on this site at hotels. People have written recommmendations for Ashford castle. It is also reviewed on tripadvisor.com.

I hope it's lovely. We are staying there next week!!!

I've stayed there and it's a beautiful place though more than I would want to spend on a regular basis. It's a five star hotel. Pierce Brosnan liked it enough to get married there and from what I could tell, rented out the whole place.

It sits at the top of Lough Corrib and varies lake adventures can be started from the river, all quite nice (though sometimes chilly).

A few notes that I think still hold true. Men are required to wear a coat and tie to dinner and perhaps in the bar after 7:00pm (that may have changed). The room we stayed in was huge and I almost drowned in the torrential shower, which was nice. Rooms with a view are pricey, but perhaps worth it.

Hope you have fun!!

Bill

Ashford Castle (www.ashford.ie) and Dromoland Castle(www.dromoland.ie) are splendid places but are very expensive. In the winter good value is available during the week and I enjoyed them both at that time of year.

If it is good enough for the late Ronald Reagan and his wife then its good enough for you.
