Castle-Style Hotel Overlooking Luzern?
 

Fodors listed a castle-style hotel on a hilltop overlooking Luzern called Chateau Gutsch Kempinski. Anyone ever heard of it or perhaps stayed there? It sounds like it is quite atmospheric, but I can't find any pictures of it on the internet. What were your impressions?

Good morning, Judyjay we have not stayed at the Chateu Gutsch, have always used the WILDEN MANN, however our nephew and family stayed there a few years back and really were impressed with it. There was a short period of time a couple of years back when it was closed as it supposedly went bkrpt. during removeling. It has a web site oc chateaui-gutsch.ch and also you sould be able to find a picture within www.swisshotels.ch....
Entry to the hotel is by a funicular.

It has been closed since sometime now (since 2-3 years now due to a financial problem or something and it never was associated with Kempinski so are they re-opended with Kempinski? This year's Swiss Hotel guide has even not listed this hotel.

When it was open, it was a 4-star hotel but I don't remember much comments on this hotel, particularly good or bad.

Could well be re-opened. Their website is " soon to be available" and the correct URL is www.chateau-guetsch.ch (with "e" between u and t). If Kempinski now has it, it may be 5-star now.

We stayed there - but about 8 years ago. It was very cute and there were numerous antiques in the pubic areas - and even some of the rooms. The room was a moderate size - not huge - but had great views out over the town. there was also a restaurant - quite traditional - but the food was tasty and the views fantastic. And one night there were fireworks over the lake that we were able to view from the roof.

There is (or was) a private funicular down into the town - otherwise you have to drive a long way around (the hotel is approached from the back - away from the town).

At the time it was quite reasonable and we would happily stay there again - if it hasn;t be ruined.

I would say it had about the best view over the city and lake you could get from a hotel; currently the only other one that might rival it would be the (?) Montana???
