Castle Lodging
Does anyone know if there are castles to stay overnight in or near any of these towns/cities:
Rothenburg Munich Salzburg (Austria) Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Fussen Meersburg Baden-Baden Rudesheim I don't really know too much about castle lodgings. Would you recommend staying in a castle? Is it worth the expense (I'm assuming that it may be more than a regular hotel)? Thanks! |
You might research on www.castleshotels.com.
I don't know much about Germany, so an Internet hint is about all I can give you. |
We have stayed at a couple of castles on the Rhine--just around the bend from Rudesheim.
Schlosshotel auf Burg Rheinfels at St. Goar tel. 011 49 6741 8020 (from USA) Burghotel auf Schonburg at Oberwesel tel. 011 49 6744 7027 Both were very enjoyable and scenic--overlooking the Rhine. Cheers, Jinx Hoover |
Four years ago we stayed at Burg Reichenstein, which is near Rudesheim. We requested a room overlooking the Rhine and although it was not elaborate, it was comfortable and included a very nice breakfast. Check out www.rhinecastles.com and you can find info on many others.

We stayed at a very nice castle hotel near Rothenburg--Burg Colmberg. Has a good restaurant, too. Double rooms run 74 to 179 euro depending on views and amenities--all have private baths. Includes parking and breakfast. A 15 to 20 minute drive from Rothenburg.

Several years ago we stayed at the Schonburg castle at Oberwessel and enjoyed it very much. The castle sits high on a hill overlooking the river. We had a charming room overlooking the Rhine. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant was excellent. We took a day long boat ride on the Rhine which ended in Rudesheim, so the castle is not very near that town, which we found quite touristy. Oberwessel is much smaller, but a nice little town with a pretty church and some nice shops.
