Castiglione del Lago Hotel Help

Hello Fodorites:
I am looking for a really nice hotel in the area of Castiglione del Lago. We are planning on making a trip or two into Cortona (we will have a car), but don’t really want to stay in Cortona itself, as we prefer a quieter location. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel or villa (expensive is okay) in or around that area? We have been to Cortona, and seen Lago Trasimeno, but haven’t actually stayed on the lake and explored that area, and thought that might be nice. Any suggestions?

If you want to be on Lago Trasimeno, I'd stay in Passignano over Castiglione del Lago. CDL has a great market, and the top of the hill part of the town is nice enough, but the rest is a bit rough around the edges, and parking is often problematic.

Not on the lake, but a quiet location in the general region: Corte del Sole. Stayed there last fall and enjoyed it. We passed a beautiful castle on the way to Corte del Sole, if I can come up with the name I'll post it. It was an easy drive from Corte del Sole to Lago Trasimeno, and we at in Castiglione del Lago a couple of times. CdS also has a very nice restaurant on site.

Thanks StCirq & Syd.

Syd, I also passed that castle (I assume it was the same one), but didn’t have time to stop and see it, so I don’t know the name either. I would like to though. If you come up with it, please post it. Thanks again.
