Castelrotto Restaurant Recommendations, Please!
 

Please help us for our upcoming trip to Italy with restaurant recommendations for Castelrotto and the region. If you recall, could you state how expensive it is?

We day tripped from Bassano del Grappa to Castelrotto at the insistence of our daughter and son-in-law who had gone there on a previous trip and loved it. We had lunch at Hotel Lamm directly on the main square. It started with a wonderful parsley and celery cream soup with trout followed by weiner schnitzel. with wheat beer prosecco and a bottle of cabernet lunch for two of us was 167 euros. you could get by for less. the place was a welcome bit of gemutlichkeit in an Italian holiday. the drive back and forth was long but beautiful. There is another hotel on the square sort of across from the Lamm, I think something like Cabro d'Oro, golden horse, that served only dinner but looked nice as well.

That's the Cavallino d'Oro - I stayed there for four nights in 2006 with dinner included in the rate. Very nice hotel, good price, good four course meal.

Julie: Is that 167 euros a typing error? It just seems pricey for a lunch of celery soup, trout and wiener schnitzel.

No, I do think she meant Hotel Lamm across the square. We have stayed there with the bell tower just outside our window.

much of the cost was attributable to wine, but yes that was the price

i spoke of two restaurants. one was the Lamm where we dined. and thrsdaysd is correct. the other was the cavallino d'oro. both are very nice

Hi Steve - I usually go for family trattorie rather than up upmarket places.

My regular eating place in Castelrotto is 'Toni' - which is a trattoria-cum-pizzeria.

The hotel restaurants tend to be more expensive.


ORTISEI

If you're in Val Gardena, a tratt./pizzeria I like in Ortisei is Cascade - just across the river.

Also try Tubladel and Vedl Mulin.

Hotel restaurants I've enjoyed in Ortisei are Sureghes and Dolomiti Madonna.

These are all relatively inexpensive (- although I get house wine rather than anything pricey).


If you want to try somewhere upmarket, La Siriolo (- San Cassiano, Alta Badia) is rated one of the best in the area according to Gambero Rosso.

Oops. DH just arrived home from a business trip and informs me that the price info I kept on the Castelrotto lunch was for 4 persons not 2. So sorry. It's not nearly as bad as I portrayed it.

Whatever, it was a wonderful, cozy place with good food and I would encourage you to check the menu and try it.
