Cassis

We visit Provence every Summer but have never been to Cassis. We stay inland and would like to make the 75 minute trip to see the port and beach. Is it worth the journey?

My vote is yes-we found it to be quite lovely. We were traveling in the Spring, stopped in Cassis for lunch. I do not know if there might be crowds in the Summer, but we really enjoyed our few hours there.

The village is lovely, but the highlight is a walk (or a boat trip) to take a look at the Calanques -- see some pics on www.calanquesmarseille.com.

At the east corner of the port, you will find the boat rides to the Calanques. Very much worth it.

We love Cassis. Been there 3 or 4 times and look forward to going again. Sent our daughter there on her honeymoon. Sent friends there on a trip to Italy and Provence. Everyone we know who's been there loves it. Locals populate the tiny harbor with their kids until late into the night. Lots of restaurants around the water. Calanques trip is fun but be careful. You want to get on a boat that is almost full. If not they'll keep telling you "we leave in just a moment" and then keep waiting however long it takes to fill the boat. Enjoy.
