Cassis?

Hello -

I am planning a trip to France in August, and I needed some feedback on a day trip from Aix. I thought Cassis might be a good option as it's only 1.5 hr away. Could anyone give feedback on Cassis or other suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Sophia. When we were in Aix in 1994, a waiter recommended Cassis to us, saying something like "It's St.Tropez without the crowds", so we stopped there on our way from Aix to Nice. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day, so we just took a quick look around and then continued on our way, but I remember it was very picturesque and I've always meant to return...but on a sunnier day!

If you're interested in a day trip the other direction, to the north, we found the ochre-colored village of Roussillon to be quite fascinating.

I had my first boulibaisse, I hope I came close to spelling it correctly. Also my first sea urchins(oursins) I don't remember the name of the b+b because I usualy travel serindipity but always two nights at a very special place we book.

We loved Cassis not the mad house of St. Tropez. I had my first sea urchins there(oursins), my first builliabaise, I can see I did,t spell that right. It is a smaller nicer versian of St. Tropez before it got invaded by the tourists or the skin exposing starlets.

Cassis is really small and very picturesque indeed. There is a "casino", however it's teeny-tiny so if that's a draw you can forget it.

It rained the day we were there too, but it was still nice. The beaches are stone, not sand, just so you know!

I believe you can a take boat tours too.

Like Capo, we've been meaning to go back.

Sophia,

Cassis is a lovely day trip if you're staying in Aix. Just be prepared for some crowds since August is about the biggest European vacation month.

It's only about 30 to 45 minutes from Aix - not 1.5 hours.

PB

Sophia,

We went to Cassis for the day from Marsailles (cruise ship port of call) and found it very comfortable. One big, big problem: Taxi's. We went by train and getting a taxi to and from the center of town was extremely difficult. If you are going by train, leave plenty of time for what seemed like the only taxi in town.
