Casino in Monaco - jacket required?

I will be visiting Monaco in June and I would like to know if wearing a jacket is a must in the Casino. I would hate to wear one in my vacations...

Short answer: yes. I have seen a few people in there with jackets off. they were very active at the tables. I can't say for sure if they entered in a jacket and removed it or not.
Definitely jacket required to enter, but tie seems optional. Gentlemen do seem to slip out of their jackets with no ill effect while they are gaming. Also no tennis shoes, even expensive models, and seems like blue jeans are a no-no. This is at the real original casino only. The Loew's (or whatever) is pretty casual.

To visit "THE CASINO", you do need to be dressed appropriately; however, if you are "just passing through" and want the experience, you can visit the "American" casino, at the Hotel de Paris. You can also spend time and money in what used to be the Lowe's Hotel (now, I believe is "Grand Hotel").

Bonne chance!!

DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSPORT - you will not be allowed in without it!!!

I think they can make an exception if you have some other sort of official, picture identification IN ENGLISH, but when my husband and I were there, he didn't bring his, and they refused to accept his Chinese driver's license and Chinese Foreign Residence permit, both of which have pictures and are very official-looking documents. We were staying in Nice, which is 30+ minutes away by train, so were really inconvenieced by this.

(When we got back to the hotel, he angrily looked up the info in our guidebook, furious they hadn't mentioned it . . . and, of course, they had!)

We wore jackets because we were going to the Casino and the sign clearly stated that they were required. But we stopped for a drink at the Hotel Paris and we were refused admission to their bar because we didn't have ties. Jacket AND ties were required there. Monte Carlo is dressy! I did not see any men in the casino without a jacket, and I've been there twice.
