Caserta Palace and gardens renovations
Hi all. I just read that the palace and the gardens at the Royal Palace of Caserta are undergoing renovation. We are planning a visit for next May. I can't read their website and I don't see An English option.
Does anyone have any info about this, I.e., what might be closed or difficult to view? |
The English Garden is partially closed now, and the access stairs to the Tower Waterfall are closed until further notice. The refreshment stand in the park is "temporarily closed." I found no mention of the palace being under large-scale renovation, although it desperately needs it.
If you read or heard that renovations are in the works, know that Italian bureaucracy is notoriously slow. And then the financing must be found, in a country with an endless list of treasures needing immediate attention. |
Thanks for this info. I did read that the palace really needs renovations, too.
So, you can still see the Diana statuary groups at the great waterfall? I've wanted to see those for a long, long time. The palace looks amazing, too. |
My interpretation of the website comment would be that it's the stairs going up to the Tower that are closed (and perhaps the Tower itself). I think if the Diana/Acteon Fountain was closed to viewing, the website would say so. It's a loonngg walk from the palace, but worth it!

We also visited nearby San Leucio where the wall and furniture coverings for the palace (and other royal families) were made. The town is a UNESCO Heritage Site and still produces some of the finest silk fabric in the world.
