Casa Il Rosario, Rome convents, Day trip to Pompeii

My husband and I (in our 40s) are staying 4 nights in Rome in May 2011. This is the tail-end of an awesome two week vacation through Venice, CT, Florence, and Rome. To save money in Rome, we are thinking of the Casa Il Rosario (this convent seemed to get high reviews on most websites).

My questions:

1) We plan to take a day-trip by train to Pompeii. --What time should we expect to retun to Rome? Will the 11:00pm curfew be a problem? Can we return in time?

2) Rick Steves suggested that convents have twin beds. Really?? While I don't plan on a wild night at the convent, something about sleeping in separate beds in Rome just doesn't seem right!

Does anyone have insight on the Casa Il Rosario?

Thanks!

1) Yes, you can return in time. Read the train schedules and choose trains that get you back to Rome by 9-10 pm.

2) If you require a double bed, then don't stay at a convent.

Lots of hotels in Europe have twin beds that they push together so twin beds in a convent won't be unusual. If there are twin beds that are separate then just push them together. It's simple.

I would take the 18:50 from Naples to ensure you get back to the convent on time. This train takes 1 hour 10 minutes; the later trains take about 2 hours. That means that you have to leave Pompeii at least 45 minutes before that time (depending on the train schedules from Pompeii to Naples). But as your trip is next year away you will need to check the train schedules closer to your departure.

Thanks adrienne -- that does sound very reasonable. I've never stayed in a convent before, so I just wanted to make sure the curfew and sleeping arrangements didn't make us feel like dating teenagers at our parents house. -- I sense from your reply that it will all be fine. I think we'll go for it.

I think Il Rosario has some rooms with double beds. Some convents do and some don't. If you want a later curfew, Santa Sofia is a block away and has midnight curfew (and lower rates, but no AC).
