Carte Orange times

Can the Carte Orange tickets in Paris be used at anytime of the day or do we have to wait until after "rush-hours"?

check out the new Navigo pass

There are no time constraints.

The electronic version for non-residents is the "Navigo Decouverte" (as opposed to the "Navigo").

Where can I find out information about this new pass? Can't find anything on the official website for the metro/RER

We got the Navigo Decoverte on Monday with absolutely no sweat. It one time extra 5 euro charge for issuance is more than made up for by the convenience, IMO. You just wave the thing at the sensor, while everyone else is fumbling with their ticket in the machine.

The clerk will just give you a packet in which are two cards and a plastic holder. One card has a place for your picture -- peel off the patch over the sticy part and stick your picture on. Both cards slip into the plastic holder, with the picture card alligned so that the number on the card which contains the chip alligns with a hole on the picture card.

Sounds complicated, but it is self evident, when you see it.

Do you have to use the Navigo card to load the Carte Orange tickets or can you still just buy a Carte Orange? We'd be buying 3 cards so that extra 15Euro adds a bit to the price for a one week use.

Evidently, the paper version is being phased out and so you might need to visit more than one station to get them... but others have been posting here and other boards that the paper ones were still available. Regardless, still cheaper than the 'Paris Visite' passes.

We won't be there until June. So it appears that the Navigo may be our only option and we'd have to pay the 5E each, right?

well, if you do, you do.... if you don't, you don't. Or, even more profound: it is what it is :)
