RER-from CDG is about 8&euro;. The Mobilis for zones 5 is priced on ratp.fr, under &quot;titres&quot; then &quot;tariffs&quot; - I doubt you will come out better than just buying the PV. <b>Most</b> of the time, the PV is overpriced - but <b>this</b> time, it fits your situation.

You can simply make a list of what you need and show it to the clerk.

- Paris Visite 3 jours, zones 1-5
- Carte Orange zones 1-5 (they'll know it's for next week)
- Carte Musee 3 jours

I live in Paris: the carte orange can be purchased as a weekly OR a monthly pass.The weekly pass starts on monday.

I'd be interested in whether you can actually use a weekly Carte Orange coupon for the wrong week or not (although I admit it isn't really important as the costs are minimal for the alternative). I can see that the people maintaining the computer system maybe just have it so it worked immediately, but there is no reason to do that. The ticket itself has a date stamped right on it, so what's the point of printing tickets with specific dates on them if those dates aren't coded into the system for the usage? They obviously have the system encoded so it won't allow you to use one AFTER that date, so they certainly could before. Sounds like a bunch of bad programmers, if RATP feels it necessary to warn people not to use it before the date or it will be invalidated.

If you could use them after the date printed on them, then lots of travel agencies, etc., could be buying them and selling them abroad -- that is the reason only Paris Visites can be sold elsewhere, which have no date encoded on them--the time frame doesn't allow it for the other tickets.

In theory, a clerk probably shouldn't be selling someone two identical tickets for the same time frame, as they must go with an identity card for one person (who could only use one for the same time period, obviously).

I realize uscTrojans is already in Paris, so this footnote is for the benefit of anyone else who may be analyzing a similar situation.

<i>Mobilis</i> isn't valid to CDG, but <i>Carte Orange</i> is. The total for three of the former plus an RER ticket from the airport is 44.30&euro;.

This represents 13.40&euro; more than the <i>Carte Orange</i>. Not a sigificant amount compared to the overall cost of a trip to Paris, but if you leave $15 on the table every time you do a $50 transaction, you will have a lot less in your pocket for self-indulgent pleasures.

A five-zone <i>Paris Visite</i> for three days is 37.35&euro;. Choosing this alternative only leaves 6.95&euro; on the table, but you <u>do</u> get those nifty coupons :(

Remembering the OP was not staying in central Paris which is what makes the comparisons important...if you're staying in central Paris I wonder how the dynamics change..

If one isn't commuting to Zone 4 (Versailles <i>e.g.</i>) or 5 (Disney), there's hardly any reason to get a <i>Carte Orange</i> for anything beyond Zone 2.

To get back and forth from the airports and far-flung sights, buy tickets from the furthest station in Zone 2 to the destination.

Hi, Robespierre... can you buy that 'extended route' ticket at any station? Or do you have to deboard the metro *at* that station (last one in zone 2) to buy the ongoing fare?

The only time I encountered a situation where I couldn't buy one where my trip started (at &Eacute;cole Militaire for Versailles), I bought it at Javel when I changed to the RER.

The RATP no longer sells trip extension tickets. At one time, if you had a Carte Orange from zone x to y, and you wanted to go out to zone y+n, you could just buy a ticket to cover the difference between y and y+n. Today, you have to buy a ticket that covers the entire trip, and your Carte Orange doesn't help at all.
