Carte Orange for kids?
 

I've educated myself on "Carte Orange" and this will work well for our 1 wk in Paris. However, we have a youth (age 12) and a child (age 10). Is there discount for them on "Carte Orange"? If not, should we get the half price The Paris Visite? Mobilis? Carnet?

I do like the freedom of a pass. Especially when the kids are tired, it's much easier to just hop on a bus and cruise around for a while.

It's been a couple of years since we bought them for our kids, but I don't think we got a youth or child discount. I know that even full price, using the Carte Orange was cheaper than the carnet.

The Carte Orange can be used on busses. Just don't get separated and leave one of the kids on the bus - like we did! Also, a small school photo will suffice for the Carte.

no, there's no child's fare Carte Orange. It's hard to say what would work best and the cost differences aren't much between all those.

I think the half price Paris Visite might be best for the 10 yr old, as I think it's the same price then as a Carte Orange (at least a five day one), but requires no photo and has some discounts. That might depend on the days you are there. If you really need a full week pass and are there Sun-Sat, a regular Carte Orange would work.

There aren't reductions for a 12 year old on any metro ticket or pass that you would buy, including Paris Visite, as far as I know, and there aren't reductions for the 10 year old except on the Paris Visite.

Boy, family travelling gets more expensive every year as the kids grow out of various discount ranges. Gone were the days when we were in Sweden where everything was free for my 6yo, including smorgasbord! No kidding.

So if "Carte Orange" and "Paris Visite" are same price for my 10yo, which one gives more discounts? We arrive on Sat and leave on Sat and most of the museums are free for both kids. Versailles will probably be our only trip outside Zone 1-2. Maybe it will be easier to all get the "Carte Orange"?

The best value in your situations is an carte orange for all. It will probably have paid for itself by Wednesday. Bring photos from home - those machines don't always work.

Can you buy a carte orange at any station?

You can buy it at almost any station from the machines that issue them. But getting the plastic pack and card does not issue from the machine, only the ticket itself. You need to go to a kiosk to get those.

Most photo machines in the metro station work. They cost 4 euro and offer only one pose, so don't think you can get four people running into the booth one after the other.

They start on Monday, so get a carnet if you arrive before then (we arrived Sun. morning).

Well worth the price for the 2 zones. Includes the metro, the bus, the RER within the zones, AND the Montmartre funicular.
