What I like about the Carte Orante and consider it a big plus , is that it is a carefree way to go around in Paris.....

Don't overlook a carnet (or 10 individual tickets at a discount). I've found that since I tend to spend a day in one area and walk a lot around there, I don't hop on and off a lot in a day (or few days) The carnet is cheaper because it goes further. And you can all use the 10 tickets.

Man the metro keeps going up every year.

I remember a time when the CO was like $10. That was what was charged to my credit card when I bought at one of the ATMs.

Are they improving the metro with these price increases?

Oui, wco81! Check out the driverless ligne 14 that goes from Gare St-Lazare to Biblioteque Nationale. Of course, this train has been around for a few years but I'm sure there will be more of these in the works. In the meantime, their are COLA & people's salaries go a bit higher every year - the same people that make our rides on the Metro so enjoyable.

I only wish my home town, Cincinnati, would use the subway system that is already in place.

When a 1er ticket was 7ff, a gallon of gasoline was 43¢.

Plus ça change...

So the Carte Orange still exists? I had been reading about somthing called Navigo replacing the Carte Orange and was hoping that the Carte Orange would still be available when my wife and I visit Paris for my sabbatical in April. We will be arriving in Paris on April 1st and then departing on May 1st. It seems like we would do best by purchasing a monthly Carte Orange for zones 1-2 and just paying the individual RER fares to and from the airport on April 1st and May 1st, since most of our travel will be within zones 1-2.
