carte musee for kids?

Is it necessary to also purchase a carte musee for children if you want to avoid the lines for the Louvre and Versailles? I know that the admission for children is free, but I'm not sure if they will also need a carte musee in order to bypass standing in line. Any advice?

If this is incorrect, I'm sure someone will correct me . . . but I was just reading in my Paris guide last night, that kids with museum passholder parents can bypass the non-passholder lines right along with them.

My sixteen year old daughter carried a photocopy of her passport when we went to museums, to prove her age. She walked in with us ( card holders) and was never once asked for proof of age.

At the Musee D'Orsay and at the Louvre, no problem. I would care the passport copy just in case, but we have never ever been stopped.

At the War Museum (the thingie by Napoleon's Tomb) and at the Picasso, kids were free but we had to go get free admission passes for them (which meant waiting in line to get the passes). Had to do the same at one other place--forget which one.

Since the only terrible lines are at Musee D'Orsay and at the Louvre, though, the pass is worth is just for those two.

You don't need one for kids--they can enter with you at the Louvre, Versailles, and Musee d'Orsay.
