Carte Mobilis -- How does this work?
 

I didn't do my homework for the past weekend.

If you buy a 1 day mobilis, is this good for 24 hours? Or does the ticket expire at some fixed time (like the London Travelcard)?

In the end I bought a carnet.

I can't seem to find the answers at ratp.fr.

What does the "touristique" include beyond the Mobilis? I assume it's the same as Paris Visite?

<i>Mobilis</i> is valid for one RATP <u>service</u> day (<i>i.e.</i>, from the first M&eacute;tro in the morning until the last trains before they shut down for the night). You can buy them in advance, because it is up to you to write on the ticket the date you use it.

It could have been t(o)uristique. Or maybe I just completely mangled it. I think that the one-day fare was about 8.50 euro? Or maybe I just misremembered.

The fares are posted on the ticket window. They post the ones for the tourists first and then for the Mobilis underneath. I remember this part, as I asked my friend to go up and take a look, and he looked at the upper panel and quoted me a price that was higher than I expected. Then I went up to look for myself and realized that he looked at the wrong prices.

I guess I made the right choice. I could have saved a euro or something if I bought the Mobilis (I'd have to keep the rest of the carnet for my next trip).

for future reference, I don't think there is any ticket called a &quot;touristique&quot;. I think you just were viewing a sign of prices and one section was referring to the Paris Visite, but just headed the prices with the word &quot;touristique&quot; because that's the adjective for tourist when applied to a noun. The 8.5 euro sounds like the Paris Visite. They probably thought it would be more obvious to tourists than using the name Paris Visite which wouldn't mean anything to someone who didn't know it.

So what does the Paris Visite include? Why is it 3 euro more?

I guess I can find it under ratp, but why bother? :-)

Paris Visite adds a book of coupons - mostly twofers - to various touristy attractions. I don't think it's worth much, and the woman at the Arc de Triomphe wouldn't even honor my coupon.

Paris Visite is always more expensive than every other alternative. Sometimes it's not much more expensive, but &quot;don't ever buy one&quot; is easier to remember than keeping a mental catalog of the situations where it comes close to some other ticket.
