Cars from Auto Europe

We seem to have found a good deal on a rental car from Auto Europe, but I don't know anything about them. Has anyone rented cars from Auto Europe? What was your experience?

dcdee Feb 24th, 2005 04:29 PM

We did and had a very good experience. If you do a search on this board, you'll find many favorable comments on Autoeurope.

Reneey: I've rented from them 4 or 5 times now and never had any problems. They're easy to deal with.

Usually, Auto Europe is not the actual source of the car. It is, in my experience, an arranger of rental contracts.

The actual car comes from someone else, like Avis.

Before you seal the deal, check out Europcar. I find that often its rates are more inclusive and cheaper on the bottom line.

Bob is correct, AutoEurope is just a broker and books the rental through a rental company. I have used them a couple times and did not ahve any issues. The last two times we had Avis, the first time is was through Europcar and it was just what we requested. I agree, check with Europcar directly.

I've rented from AutoEurope 40-50 times. I wouldn't rent from anyone else. They will match any price you get that's lower than theirs, they have great discount offers, they offer really good service once you're on the ground, and they have more locations for pickup and dropoff than any other company.

Last September I rented a car through Europecar, then checked the rates at AutoEurope. Since AE was about 100€ cheaper, I cancelled the original reservation. When we got the confirmation on the AE rental it turned out that the supplier was in fact Europecar. We've rented from AE for many years without problems.

We have rented a car from AutoEurope for our upcoming visit to France.

They met the lowest price I could find through other brokers.

The car is actually coming from Europcar.

An additional point.

We have made a deposit on the car. Our contract provides that we owe $361 (278E) upon returning the car.

It occurred to me that, since the rental agency is going to charge my CC in euro, I could be taking a major hit on the exchange rate when they convert dollars to euro.

I called AutoEurope. They guarantee the price in dollars. If the final charge comes out to be more than $361, they will refund the difference.

I think that that is pretty good.

Please Note: AE does not include airport surcharge and road tax. Expect this to be an additional $40 - payable as a separate charge in Europe.

Used AutoEurope about 5 times -- lowest prices, fair, etc. I'd feel confident with them. Happy driving!

I always rent through Auto Europe, and have been very satisfied with their prices and service. As Ira mentioned, if there is a discrepancy because of exchange rates after you have paid the deposit, they will refund the difference. When I rented last summer, this was the case, and the refund was processed as soon as I contacted them on my return.

We've used them several times in the UK and have never had a problem.

For the benefit of the various travellers who may see this post: keep in mind that several European countries, including England and Ireland, have upper-age limits for drivers. So if you, or your driver, is over 70, be sure to inquire.

I have used them in the UK, Germany and Portugal. Always got the "best" man trans car contracted (high end Toyota, MB, and VW).

Check Nova Rentacar too. I received a lower quote than AutoEurope for the same type of car, and AutoEurope was willing to change to an even lower quote. One difference is that with Nova you just pay a deposit, whereas with AutoEurope they charge the whole amount to your credit card when you reserve. That's ok if you want to hedge against further decline of the dollar.

Hi there --

We rented from them last July. We picked the car up in Florence and dropped it off in Siena. The car was nice and very roomy. So glad the full insurance was required b/c our car was a bit scraped from being parked overnight. There were absolutely no extra charges incurred, though. We even returned it a couple of hours late and no extra fees! =) Would definitely rent from them again.

Good luck! -- h.
