If I felt the need for these type of precautions I think I'd go with interior pockets in your clothing (either that you add or that come that way meant for travel).

Isn't this why we have orange Fodor's bags? To kill two birds with one stone - carry water and recognize each other in a crowd?

You forgot the third benefit: it allows touts and criminals to more effectively target you.
