ZAltamiro, yuou are not completely correct. In Belgium you can get a fine for not carrying your passport, and I believe it is also like this in the Netherlands. In germany there is no obligation to carry your passport with you. However, you have to prove your identity when the police asks you, and they have a reason for it. So if you don't carry your passport with you, they will accompany you to the place where your passport is, but on their conditions. Usually it means you loose several hours. That is the theory. In practice, nobody will ask for your passport, so you can take the risk.
