Carry on luggage update- alert

Coming back through heathrow airport to the US, the following occured.

My daughter had a 22" rolling suitcase. However, a 22" is really a 24" if you measure including the wheels. They were checking all the carryon luggage in that box they have. and it didn't fit. Had to be checked.

It appears you need a 20" or even only a 19" to have it just reach to 22" by the time you include the wheels on the bottom and the handle on the top.

also watch out for the 14" across and 9" deep.

realize all airlines or airports are not as strict, but if you are carrying stuff you can't check - camera equipment, certain medical equipment, etc. you need to downsize your carryon and check the rest.

Joanel, thanks for the heads-up. Trying to pack carryon isn't as easy anymore, is it. Whether its weight restrictions or size, it's helpful to have reminders. Hopefully you didn't have to make too many adjustments with your luggage Deborah

yeah, that's true in a lot of places, although people tend to think of the main part of the suitcase as the size. They are often advertised and labeled that way, also. But many carriers specify that the size includes the handle and wheels (Air France, for example, is very specific on that point on their website when they state the size allowed for carry-on).

anyone actually checked the size of the airline template containers? are they exactly what they say on line. 14x9x22 or is there a little leeway?

We have traveled through LHR six times this year and they never measure our bags .
I suspect the reason is they are not roll ons - just soft bags we carry over the shoulder. They probably appear smaller although, they might be a bit bigger than allowed.
