Carousel in "Amelie"
Just watched the film AMELIE....loved it!!<BR>Does anyone know if the antique carousel shown in the film is really in existence or was it a prop? Is it in a part of Paris or somehwere else? I would love to visit that area. Any help?

Paris is simply full of carousels. It is entirely possible it is rael, not a prop. check out the book, Collected Traveler Paris, by Barrie Kerper. There is an article in this book about Paris and its carousels. <BR><BR>while this doesn't answer your question, maybe it will point you in a direction to get an answer.

It's at the bottom of the steps coming down from Sacre Coeur.
|
And should you get to Avignon, There is a beauty there.
|
Also a nice one at Place de Republique, and there's one near the Eiffle Tower
|
My wife and I were there in September of 2002 and we don't recall seeing a carousel at the base of Sacre Coeur? Are you sure it is there all year round?
|
It's inbetween the bottom of the stairs and the entry to the funicular as it goes up the hill.
|
I don't recall seeing one in Avignon either last May. Where is it?

here are a few:<BR><BR>http://www.thegalloper.com/backstories/0202france.html

The one in Avignon is right on the main large place in front of the Hotel de Ville (Place d'Horloge), at least it was when I was there. Perhaps they don't have it up in May, but I thought it was always there. It's at the top end towards the palace.<BR><BR>Here's a photo of the one near Sacre Coeur<BR>http://www.planetware.com/photos/F/PRSACCOL.HTM<BR>It's at place St Pierre.

Christine,<BR><BR>The antique carousel is in Place St. Pierre, near the terraced garden leading up to Sacre-Coeur.<BR><BR>Have also seen carousels in both Fountainbleau and Carcasonne.<BR><BR>
