My wife and I will be in Rome the week of May 7, 2007. We will be taking full day excursions from Rome to: 1.The Amalfi Coast on May 8; and 2.Florence on May 10
These are 11 or 12 hour trips provided by:

The cost for a luxury minivan with an English speaking driver is around 550 to 600 Euros for four people.
We would like to hear from you if you are a couple interested in sharing either or both of these trips. We could flip-flop the dates, or be flexible that week. Ken C

Take the train to Florence. Cheap and easy to do. Daytrip to the Amalfi Coast seems like a real reach.

I cannot but agree with NorthShore.

I also would not do that as a daytrip from Rome.

Thanks for the advice Northshore and others, but you're really not helping my cause here.

These both sound like fun, relaxed trips and we intend to go.

If another couple wants to go and share the cost, they should contact me.

Not to knock your idea, but 11/12 hr trips doesn't sound fun or relaxed to me.

Please do come back and tell us about your drive to the Amalfi Coast however.

Sorry, but IMHO 11 and 12 hour mini bus tours definitely don't sound relaxed OR fun. Hope you enjoy them but I personally wouldn't touch them w/ a 10 foot pole . . . . .

Again, I cannot but agree. Especially at a price of 600 €.

A one-day trip to Amalfi from Rome sounds pure madness to me. Perhaps a quick glance at Positano and a 30-minute walk in Amalfi, there won't be time for more.
You'll spend at least 80% of the day stuck in the car on crowded highways, most of the rest stuck in the car on crowded winding mountain roads. With an Italian driver. Bring pills against travel sickness, you'll need them.

And I suspect you'll get a lot more "relaxed"if someone helps foot the bill.

Your "cause" is nothing more than an advertisement IMO.

Florence in a day? That's just plain nuts.

what a bunch of lazy grumps. Why is a 11-12 hour trip so totally exhausting, certainly one stays awake and does things for that long a period normally when on vacation, right? Why is that any more awful than getting up yourself and staying up and doing things for 11-12 hours. It could be more relaxing because you have someone else plan and make the arrangements. Now I have no idea about those itineraries, but I've taken trips that long, including a bus to/from the city of interest, in other countries and they were relaxing and I enjoyed them a lot. I find iot relaxing when I am a passenger in a car on a road trip and can view the countryside, also, it's the same thing, only those buses can be quite comfortable sometimes.

I feel carsick just thinking about it.

And I'm not kidding.

Then Christina, you take them up on their "generous" offer and be sure to give us a detailed report when you get back.

(Being out and about and doing things is entirely different than being stuck in the back of a minibus for 6 to 8 hours of an 11 or 12 hour day)

Sounds just horrific plus way too expensive to me. Notice no one has offered to share the load....
