Walked tbe wall...all of it, visited the castle museum, climbed the castle tower. Had a great stroll in the York museum garden, had a lovely chat to one of the gardeners.
Our daughter and son in law caught the train up from Leeds (he's on a day off ) and we had a lovely lunch at Jamie's Italian , had a little shop (got a t towel at Betty's ) now sitting in a warm pub having a beveridge.
Going to attempt Fountains Abby tomorrow.
:-)

Hi aussie,

sounds as if you're having a great trip, assisted of course by how well your teams are playing.

we all expected the Australian team to do well, but Italy have been a revelation.

we will miss following the tournament when we leave on Sunday.

Hi ann, safe flight....see you in Brisbane.

bilboburgler Nov 8th, 2013 12:13 PM

Hey ann, have a great trip.

Bilbo

annhig Nov 9th, 2013 10:03 AM

thanks, bilbo, we'll try. It got off to a good start today when we picked up our hire car [which is to get us from home to LHR, where we will drop it off, in order to avoid the parking charges for 5 1/2 week for our own car] in the nick of time, having failed to realise that the hire car depot closed at 1pm. we got there at 12.55!

things looked up when our rugby team won 38 - 28, having been down 10 - 25 at half time.

Hi ann, safe flight...>>

you too, aussie. the weather in Brisbane looks quite nice at the moment, fingers crossed it lasts! I can't believe that in a little under 2 weeks' time, we'll be sitting in the stands at the Gabba, watching the first test. who would have guessed even a week ago that Michael Carberry would be nailed on to open the batting? I'm feeling excited about it already!

aussiedreamer Nov 9th, 2013 10:27 AM

I'm not too excited to be going home to that weather, Ann.....I'm loving the cold!!
One more game in Halifax tomorrow and we'll be heading home.

Morgana.....
I can not thank you enough for the Fountains Abbey recommendation woh woh woh, we loved it, walked for hours, mostly in sunshine. And you'll be pleased to know we just had dinner at Betty's and are about to have our chosen desserts here at our B&B :-)

glad you're liking our weather - I know that it has its attractions, but it begins to pall a bit after 50+ years. good luck v Tonga tomorrow.

So glad you enjoyed Fountains. I imagine the autumn colours of the trees looked amazing in the sunshine. You are right, it is a huge Estate and you can walk right through it and into Ripon. You can see the spires of Ripon cathedral from several vantage points in the park Did you see any deer?
Hope you enjoyed Betty's!

Absolutely beautiful photos - the ones of Fountains and Studley Royal are stunning. Mine don't come out like that!

Stunning photos, aussie. Brings back wonderful memories, but sure didn't look like that when we saw it! Amazing, well done!

Cathinjoetown Nov 22nd, 2013 03:58 AM

I've just 'jumped' on here to check I'd done my TR......ahhh I haven't. I will attempt it now...........I also need to finish my eastern European one from earlier last year. Is it worth finishing them if you've let it go 6+ months?? I guess even if its only for my own reference.

annhig Feb 3rd, 2014 01:53 PM
