Carcassonne

Anyone visited here? I've heard mixed reviews. We will be in France next month so it would be off season. On other European trips have visited castles in Germany, Czech and Hungary. Have also been to walled cities of Rothenberg ob der Tauber on the Romantic Road in Germany and Czesky Krumlov in CR. Would this city still interest us? How did you like it?
It was well preserved, but really just OK. The Hotel (la Cite) was wonderful, but the shops have tourist junk. I like walled cities that people actually live in.

There is another post about this place (curiously, it was posted by you) which has a few responses. (hint: scan through listings on this page then use "next 50" until you come across it)

Sorry for the double posting but have had difficulty with using this site. Supposedly you can hold down shift if you want to highlight 2 separate areas (general interest and France) when making a posting. I did that, but then a little while later when checking on the posting could only find the posting under one of the areas, so redid it. I have also had this problem in the past.

Julie---
I would only comment that I personally enjoyed Carcassone and found it to have, like most of the other walled cities I've visited, its own character. Most such places are touristy, but I found the cathedral to be very interesting, and I enjoyed just walking around inside the city and between and on the city walls. And there are indeed people living full-time in the
city; so it really isn't all that dead.
