Car travel between Venice, Slovenia and Croatia
We are planning on renting a car in Venice then driving to Croatia (Rovinj) then back to Slovenia for a week. I've read others say that you can't take a car rented in Italy to Croatia, is that still true? I've also read about some sort of car fee / permit required as you enter Slovenia. Can anyone provide any information on this?
Thanks in advance... Tana |
We did a reverse trip with our then 6 year old a few years ago, renting a car in Zagreb, visiting Slovenia, then driving down the Adriatic Coast to Zadar, ferry to Italy, train to Venice. We left the car in Croatia.
The drive down the coast to Zadar was pretty hair-raising, but it sounds like you are staying farther north. Don't miss the caves at Postojna, or that crazy castle built into the side of a mountain! |
Tana - I believe rental companies add an extra fee for this. It may be a supplementary insurance charge ...
Hope this helps ... Steve |
Hi J,
>I've read others say that you can't take a car rented in Italy to Croatia..< Call www.autoeurope.com at 1-888-223-5555 and see what they say. ((I)) |
AutoEurope will let you do what you are proposing but you might consider taking the ferry from Venice to Pula and picking up the car there. It is almost $100 less that way ($250 vs 350)
