Car Service in Rome

We'll be arriving around 11pm in Rome at Campiano airport and our hotel is by the Vatican. I'm concerned about taxi prices and getting ripped off and using public transporation at that hour will be fairly complicated/ tiresome.

any recommendations?

thank youuuu

Hello nitabonita, here is the website for a car service that many Fodorite's have used over the years and always comment on how pleased they are with them.

Another good one is www.airportshuttle.it.

I've used them four times and been very happy with their service. They've always been right there and easy to find. On one trip when my luggage was lost, I had to go over to the next terminal to report it, and they put me on a slightly later shuttle since I couldn't make the one I was scheduled for. I've also had them pick me up to go back to the airport (sometimes at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning for an early flight), and they were always there on time to pick me up.

Hi Nitabonita.

Definitely use the car service LoveItaly recommended. My husband and I stayed at a hotel next to the Vatican. Driving to/finding that hotel was a huge challenge. Once we finally arrived, we ditched our car at the carpark and used the subway system to get around. We found it easy to navigate, inexpensive, and efficient. I hope you're planning an afternoon at the Vatican Museum - It is amazing. Enjoy Rome!

Hi! Thank you for the response.

For the RomeShuttleLimousine - are the rates per person or total?

Hello nitabonita, if you click on the website I gave you and click on
for the E Class and than for the Campiano Airport you will see they charge 35 euro for up to 3 passengers with luggage for 35euro. It is a very user friendly website.

I used http://www.romecabs.com/ for both airport transfers and some private tours and was very pleased. Just another option.

I just contacted the limousine service for a booking request.

How much are you supposed to tip the driver? The far is 35 Euros, what is the norm?

I'd usually give him a total of 40 for a 35 euro fare.

Incidentally, this past summer our BA flight from London to Rome was over 2 hours late. I was worried about our pre-arranged romeshuttlelimousine service, but he was right there -- apparently having found out the flight was delayed. I also managed to convince him to call the owner of the apartment we were renting and tell her in Italian that we were on our way. I ended up giving him 50 for the 35 euro fare considering the wait, the help, the phone call, etc.

Nitabonita - I hope you do better with romeshuttle then I have. I've sent them two inquiries and haven't heard a word..and it's been over a week. I'm now booked through www.limoservicerome.com.

Have a wonderful trip.

There is a bus shuttle service connected with (provided by) the budget flights that land at Ciampino to Termini train station. The shuttles are timed to depart when the flights land and the cost is 8 euro per person. I don't think this will save any money since you would then have to taxi to your hotel from Termini.
