Car Seats
Do taxi services in London have car seats available if specially requested?
|
What on earth do you mean?
London taxis have room for about 4 people on the main seat and there is a fold-down seat behind the driver.
Did you think you had to stand up?

Let's pretend Mary was referring to car seats for infants and/or children.

Most car hire services have them available for prearranged journeys (airport transfer, dedicated touring, shopping expedition, etc). You can inquire before you make your booking.

I don't think they are readily available. We traveled without incident around London without such a seat, holding our two your old. The taxis are so big, you can roll a full carriage right into the passenger compartment without breaking it down. Remember, just because car seats are a good idea, don't get too hyper concerned about safety, particularly on a short jaunt in the city. Wasn't too long ago that car seats were unheard of and seat belts ignored. Finally, if you are flying into London, you will need a car seat anyway, if your child is under a certain age or size (assuming you are buying a seat for the child, which you should if flying any distance).

Mary,

Yes, some London Taxis do have childseats. The newest model of London taxi (called a TX1) has a child seat built in to the center of the rear seat.

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com
