Car seat requirements in Prague?

We are traveling to Prague and the surrounding area for a week's time with our 6 month old baby. If we plan to rent a car, is a car seat mandatory by law or can we hold our child in our lap?
Many thanks...

I don't get the logic of this question. Are you saying you as parents see no need to secure your baby in a car seat, but you'll do it if the law requires it?

I've seen what happens to children when they fly through the windshield in an auto accident.

I can;t believe anyone would ask this question. The number of infants/children that died as a result of becoming unguided missiles in car crashes is enormous. And you're asking if you HAVE to get a car seat?

And no - you can;t hold your baby in your lap. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to be in the front of the car unless in a proper child restraint.
