Car required in Kefalonia?

My husband and I will be in Kefalonia in mid August. We are staying in Skala Beach but would like to travel around the Island a bit. Will we need a car or is regular transport/tours available? If we need a car, do we need to reserve one in advance at this time of year?

You will definitely need a car for Kefalonia although it is possible to get around by bus. How ever by bus it is frustrating as they are not frequent. Have you considered renting a scooter?

A scooter sounds like fun - can two people ride on the one scooter? Would these need to be reserved in advance or could we organise it when we get there?

Unless you are experienced scooter riders, then don't risk it. You'll understand why when you see the roads on Kefalonia and the amount of cars and campervans around at that time of year. You won't need a car for more than 3 or 4 days tops to see most of what the island has to offer.<BR>

Renting a car is a must, as it give you the freedom to explore the island, and not be at the mercy of public transportation.
August is high season and you might not find a car suitable for your needs so its best to book in advance.
