Car Rentals - Europcar versus Avis

Both Avis and Europcar have locations that fit my needs for upcoming travel in Austria and Italy (we will arrive in Vienna from Fort Lauderdale May 8). Is there any advantage to using one company versus another given equal pricing?

Thanks,

Check the pricing in Autoeurope. There is an argument that Autoeurope as a broker will go to bat for you if you have problems with the local rental agency.

Are you picking up in Austria and dropping in Italy? One ways have big drop off fees and I know there are issues with car rentals in Italy and US credit card insurance. Hopefully, someone with better info will join the thread.

If the rental includes Italy, I believe that Autoeurope will not offer the "basic" rate which allows the client to use the credit card to cover the CDW.

I'm working on an Italy rental as well. Many of you have suggested I pick up the car in Orvieto and drop it off at the Florence airport, which would work really well for what we're interested in seeing.

Neither AutoEurope nor Kemwel show availablity in Orvieto, but we could rent through one of them if we pick up the car in Siena.

I'm planning to call AutoEurope tomorrow and see what we can do, but in the meantime, has anyone ever used Europe by Car? This company would let us pick up the car in Orvieto.

Whoops, hit send too soon. We could pick up and drop off the car in Florence with Europe by Car, but since we're planning to visit some of the smaller towns in Tuscany before we go to Florence, I'm not sure that makes sense for us.

I plan to drop off our Vienna car in Villach, then train to Venice.
Then pick up another car in Rome for the drive thru Tuscany, dropping it off in Stresa. I ran in to the same problem regarding Orvieto - no automatic shift available.

Apparently there isn't anything available for my dates in Orvieto, manual or automatic.

I hadn't really considered driving from Rome. Hmmm....

We've arranged cars through Autoeurope for years, but always use the toll free number. Our preferred company is Europcar, but next time I had them get me one from Avis in Arezzo, office right across the street from the station.

Leaving from Rome, a popular rental place is the Chuisi train station.

To rmgood: Why don't you you take the train from Venice to Stresa, after or during your stay pick up a car and drive south?

Oops...that's Chiusi.
