car rentals

Any suggestions on cheapest car rental company in Scotland or London.

Cheap is not always good. We used Enterprise a few times because of price but the service was abysmal. Hertz are more expensive but reliable. Sixt is supposed to be a bit cheaper but we've never used them. Europcar is OK too. You may be able to find a cheap, local company but they won't have the infrastructure behind them like a big company, e.g if your car malfunctions on the way to Scotland, how do you get another car? They won't have branches all over.

Impossible to generalise on this as it's a very competitive market and prices/promotions change all the time. Best to shop around or go through an intermediary such as holidayautos or autoeurope.

you'll want to start w/ autoeurope.com They are a broker and deal w/ all the majors. IME, they will get you the best all-in rates about 70% of the time. I usually start w/ a quote from ae and then shop/compare directly on the various rental websites.

We always use Hertz - but do have a special corporate discount that makes it cheaper than anybody else - esp for the larger automatic cars that we always rent. the benefit is that they have a lot of offices and anything goes wrong - we had a windshield crack - all by itself - they were able to get us a new car in only about 2 hours.
