Car Rentals.
I have a question about car size. For probably 5 adults would it be possible to fit all of them in a, say, Mercedes/ BMW wagon w/ luggage or is that not sensible in the least?

Ask yourself the question the person making the rental reservation never remembers: would you want to be the person in the middle of the back seat?

I would get a minivan - - In most parts of Europe, they're a bit smaller than even the smallest mini-vans in the United States.

Best wishes,

Rex
hERE'S SOMETHING TO CONSIDER-TWO CARS. We were in Ireland with our four children and found that cars to fit all of us were rare and exepnsive. Instead we rented two small cars and had the added bonus of being able to go in different directions or leave at different times as needed. Two cars were much less expensive to rent than one big one and much easier to manuveur and park on small roads. We used autoeurope.com--but of course, check around first.
Dan,

Have you considered leaving one person at home?

Seriously, if you are going to be traveling the entire length of Europe, it is not sensible. If you are only going to be traveling in a limited area and not spending much time in the car, it may be worth the savings.
