Car rental size in ireland

Hello, we will be visiting ireland with four adults each with a reasonable amount of luggae(not alot) I was wondering which size car would be best. I have seen posts for two people but not four. (No CDW info please my brain cannot handle anymore on this topic =)

Four of us traveled in Ireland last summer...and we take off again in ten days! We rented a compact, but limited ourselves to a total of just two medium suitcases (along with assorted backpacks, etc.).Unless you're pretty committed to keeping your luggage to a minimum, a compact could be too small. It held our four passengers pretty comfortably, but luggage space could be an issue. Those narrow Irish roads make me feel that smaller is better, though.

Also pay attention to the size of the passengers. We got a full-sized car, and for 4 large people it was uncomfortable. Two of them were over 6', and there was no knee room.

Last year we (4 adults) rented a Ford Galaxy (not the same as the old-time US model, more of a minivan). Great roomy vehicle. Love being up higher than in a regular car. No problems on the narrow roads. This year in Scotland, we rented a lower-to-the-ground car, and hated it. For any sight seeing. the folks in the back seat had to crane their necks. No fun. Never again.

We rented an automatic mini-van (which is smaller than an American counterpart.) It was easy to handle and not a problem even on the narrow roads. We were glad we had the extra room for luggage. We used Dan Dooley at Shannon airport.

Thanks for your help! We actually have a friend who lives in Belfast who will be doing most of the driving so hopefully we come back with all of our mirrors =)

We were in Ireland for 14 days in April,(4 adults) and had a Ford Focus Wagon. It was just about the right size.

(of course by the end of the trip, Mom & my brother had shopped enough to fill it to capacity)

We started out with a 25" upright and a 17" carryon each. On the way back we added 2 Large duffles and 2 small duffles.

We would have gone with a mini van, but the additional cost put it out of our budget range.
