car rental prices

Im not sure if its kosher to talk about actual dollars here, if not, Im sorry. Im having a head scratching moment about renting a car in Munich. Autoeurope give me a rate of $141.00 plus the tax and whatever else they charge for 24 hour car rental, this is a small compact car. Travelocity on the other hand gave me a rate of $44.00 + same car type, same 24 hours. Both were in US dollars. This doesnt seem like a small discrepancy to me. So what IS the average car rental in Munich?? What have been your experiences as far as cost?

thanks, Shelley

Hi d,

Of course you can talk about actual prices.

IIRC AE has a 3 day minimum.

Hy!
I don't know much about prices, but you can try to find out here about the prices of whichever company you are interested in. http://www.infocarrental.com/ Of which country you wish.
But i think they're giving you the prices in euros, not dollars. But you can convert it, i'm sure ;)

thanks guys,

ava that helped, I didnt know about that site, thank you..

I keep going back and forth on renting a car in Munich. We want to go to the castles and I want to see Oberammergau but Im not sure if we can do that by train in an efficient manner and with the cost of gas and toll roads, I still need to research this a little more.... but thanks for the info!

We're renting a car in France, and I checked Kayak, Expedia, Orbitz, etc. Believe it or not, I found the cheapest rate for the car we wanted (small convertible) on Hertz's own webpage. Didn't come up on Kayak, either. So, I'd poke around on the various webpages. Also, I've seen big discrepancies in the past in rental car prices. I've even seen situations where it is cheaper to rent a bigger car than a smaller car. But a couple things to check-- some companies give you the price of all the days together, and some give you a per day rate, so make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Same with euros v dollars.

Hi,
I am newly join in this site. This site is very useful to others. The New Cars are a supergroup formed in 2005 around members of the popular 1970s/1980s new wave band The Cars. The band is composed of Todd Rundgren, drummer Prairie Prince, original Cars members Greg Hawkes and Elliot Easton, as well as a rotating membership between bass players Kasim Sulton and Atom Ellis. The band performs The Cars' classic songs, Rundgren's solo work, and some new material.

Some rental car prices quoted do not include taxes and insurance - that can often account for the price differentials.

My preference is to rent a car for this drive. I like be able to stop when I want and see the odd little things I like. We stopped for a picnic lunch out of our trunk and while we ate we watched a farmer cut hay with a hand sickle. Here is a map of the castle loop starting in G-P. http://thirdmansystems.com/vacation/...20Garmisch.htm
You can do it in a day, but you will be rushed a bit, plus you should buy castle tickets ahead.
