car rental pick up in rome
In june we will be in Rome for a week and will then pick up a rental car (Europcar) and head south to the Amalfi coast. I am trying to decide on a location to pick up the car.
Ciampano airport is an option but then you have to go into the main terminal. Alternately i am looking at the Sheraton hotel Europcar site on Via Del Pattinaggio or the site at Parco De Medici on Via Cesare Guilio Viola.
My concern is what the traffic will be like at 9:30 on a Friday morning on the ring road trying to get to the A1.
Should I just go to Ciampano and avoid ring road traffic .
By the way I will be coming from Trastevere.

Thanks for the advice qwovadis. I checked out the tiger website but unfortunately they don't have a depot in Como which is where I will be returning the car. I usually do an airport rental if I am unsure, so Ciampano seems a good option

Good for you!
My idea was to get the car in Sorrento and avoid a hectic drive.
But, if you plan to have it 4 weeks you really neeed to look at the Kemwel lease program with pick up in Rome and drop in Milan.

We picked up our car (Europcar) at Ciampino and it was super easy getting on the motorway. We were headed to Montalcino. Returned the car at Florence airport and that was easy also-but GPS helped.

thanks nini
It seems that Ciampino is the go. we will be heading south to Praiano then up to Tuscany for 10 days then Northern Italy, leaving the car at Como and training it to Venice before flying home.
The driving doesn't bother me bob. the first day in a rental car is always a bit of a strain, getting used to a different car and driving on the "wrong" side of the road. it is more trying to plan the best escape from Rome traffic on that first day.
