Car rental in Versailles
Has anyone rented a car in Versailles? Which company did you use and did you have any problems with pick-up & drop-off, etc? Thanks!

From www.avis.com

Railway Station Gare SNCF - F5P
Versailles, 78000, France
(33) 01 39 53 42 42
Sun Closed; Mon-Fri 08:00AM-12:00PM
02:00PM-06:30PM; Sat 08:30AM-12:00PM
02:30PM-06:00PM

I wouldn't be surprised if there were other companies too.

Keep in mind (based on what you have posted on other threads) that a one day rental can be VERY expensive in most of Europe. Often the same price as a three-day rental.

For three-day or longer rentals, recommend www.autoeurope.com - - but I am pretty sure that they do not do one day rentals.

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks Rex. I've appreciated your insights. Do you know where this railway station is in comparison to the Chateau? I called Avis 800 number and they didn't know. There is also a Hertz on Rue des Chantiers. The cost for one day will run around $100, I think. You're right about AutoEurope; they rent for a minimum of 3 days.

jb,
The Avis rental that Rex mentioned is the same one you mention near Rue Chantiers. It is located about 1/2 mile s.e. of the chateau near the RER Chantiers station

The RER station is close to the chateau--about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away.

JB-

I rented a car through Europcar with a pick up at CDG airport and a return to the Versailles office. Beware, even though I confirmed the hours of the office (a Saturday) and reconfirmed them at CDG, when we arrived in Versailles, the office was closed with a note on the door saying no drop offs were allowed. The company had no explanation for this. We had to take the car back to CDG. Otherwise, we had a wonderful vacation. Enjoy.

topping, along with your other one.
Hmmm...The other train station in Versailles is called "Versailles Chantiers"...So the car rental location rue des chantiers could be near the train station, which would defeat your purporse (renting a car because the train station is too long away, according to your other thread)
|
what does the other one mean?
|
I rented from Avis at the Versailles Chantiers station in 2000. The Avis office was located inside the station and other rental agencies were across the street. No problems picking up the car, but when we returned the car it was after hours and had to leave the keys in the drop off box. That made me a bit uncomfortable, but we had no problems.

Thanks for the help everyone! Huh, the other thread is the one with Chartres Versailles Car Train in the title.
