car rental in Italy

I plan to rent a vehicle (an SUV) in Italy. In using the odometer to measure distances traveled, will it be in miles or kilometers?

They don't use miles there for anything. It's all km.

Hi M,

rk is correct.

You are aware that an SUV on Italian byways is similar to driving a 10 wheeler in the US?

Hi Mike,

I had the same immediate thought as Ira. Are you sure you really need an SUV? Parking is going to be a big challenge!!

Just so you know, most parking is parallel and the spaces are about 1/2 the size they are in the US. Is there some reason you need an SUV - and the huge amount of very expensive gas it will suck down?

Also - where will you be driving? If on the highway - SUVs are especially dangerous at high speeds since they're so top-heavy - esp if packed with people and luggage.

Really I would go for a car versus a truck if at all possible.

To answer your question, kilometers!!

Contrary to all the naysayers, if you want to rent an SUV, go for it!!! As I recall, they have huge busses all over Italy in large towns, small towns, and tiny villages. They also have SUV's all over Italy.

You'll have no problem driving in Italy in an SUV. ((b))

budman,

Driving is not the problem, parking is!

You're such a "GUY"! :-d
