CAR RENTAL IN FRANCE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS
 

What's the easiest way to rent a car in toulouse? can i rent it for a couple months? and what is the cheapest option do you think?

im a student and dont have a lot of money.

You can investigate the Peugeot lease-buy-back program. But it will not be cheap!!

For that period of time you can save money by leasing a car instead of renting. Try kemwel.com to start with.

Your best bet might be to check out local rental/leasing agencies when you get to Toulouse. The local dealerships are usually less expensive than the big guys.

You are a student - how old are you? Many rental and/or lease options have age limits.

Cars are expensive and petrol is VERY expensive -- in the $8.50-$10 a gallon range. Are you sure you need a car for your itinerary? Very often trains and flying are cheaper than driving, and buses are definitely cheaper.

You don't have to be over 25 to rent a car (perhaps to lease one, though - I haven't investigated that). My 21-year-old daughter has rented a car in France for three weeks this summer through AutoEurope.

StCirq - was there a supplemental fee due to her age? I know some firms in the UK and Ireland will rent to under 25's - but w/ a substantial add-on and/or higher insurance.

leasing def sounds like the best option because we will be working on organic farms through france so we will probably have to get to places off the tourist track.

if anyone knows of any great leasing buy back programs that are the best id be all ears. thanks ekscrunchy for your recommendation.

We paid a $25 extra fee and had to send her insurance/driving record info, but it wasn't a big deal. I also recommended she get an IDP even though it's not required in France.

EPC: I did the Peugot leaseback a few times and thought it was a splendid deal. The only drawback I can see is I had to take the car for it's first 1,000-km checkup (and if I'd kept it beyond 5,000 kms would have had to take it for that checkup too), which required finding a Peugot dealer and being able to explain in French (not a problem for me, but might be for some) what needed to be done - and make sure the paperwork was filled out properly. I believe I've read posts here on Fodors, though, from folks who didn't need to do that, so maybe you could get by without having that requirement.

We are renting a car for 7 weeks in France and checked out the lease program. For us, it was cheaper to rent through Kemwel. We are renting from Tourville (Normandy) and returning the car in Nice. Our fee was $830, which we had to pay in advance. We didn't pay extra to Kemwel for insurance because we used the "Premium Car Rental Protection" that American Express offers for $25 per rental.

Sorry, I made a mistake. The car rental is for 34 days. I forgot that we don't have the car when we are in Paris.
