Car rental in England

Can any Fodorite help me to find a car rental agency in England who will rent to a 76 year old American
The rental agencies have a maximum age for tourists renting their vehicles.
Examples;
Enterprise-75
Practical-75
Thrifty-70
Woods-70
Hertz-"There is no maximum age in the city information" Hardly reassuring
We hope to pick up a car at Manchester airport on 23 September for a 21 day rental.
Thanks
Don

Maybe they know something you don't. If you haven't driven in Uk it is tough at half you age.

Try www.nova.co.uk

Web site states no upper age limit except at the following depots Pembroke, Carmarthen and Isle of Man age limit is 75.

Plymouth, Exeter, Leigh, Newquay, Taunton and Bury St. Edmonds it is 70 years.

Have rented thru Nova and would do so again.

don76, why not email Hertz and find out their policy.

We dropped off a Hertz car last October at the Manchester airport (around 7am) and it was an odd arrangement (to the uninitiated). You park your car in an available space and then drop your keys int a locked-box at the Hertz desk. (This was true of other car companies as well.) It worked out fine (no unforseen charges) but it just seemed odd.

Also, the Manchester airport is a dream compared to LHR, JFK, CDG.

Good luck!

Hertz will rent to over 75's - BUT I am not sure if it is rental location specific. In other words, They might rent to you at one depot but not at another.

There are 1 or 2 other agencies who will rent to older drivers - but I always tell my "senior" students (I teach travel classes) to try Hertz first.

A word of caution re car rental insurance. One of my credit card guide to benefits reads:

"In no event shall coverage be provided when the cardholder rents a vehicle beyond 15 consecutive days from the same rental company, whether the original agreement is extended, or a new written agreement is entered into, or a new vehicle is rented. A new vehicle rented in a different city from the same agency is permitted."

EVEN IF THE ACCIDENT HAPPENS ON THE FIRST DAY YOU WILL NOT BE COVERED.
