Car rental in Bellagio?

Can you rent a car in Bellagio? Need to visit relatives about an hour northeast of Bellagio for a couple day trips during the week stay.

I can't imagine that you can (and you certainly can't drive _directly_ northeast of Bellagio - - you would go straight into Lake Como).

From where are you headed to get TO Bellagio? You just about have to be coming from Lugano or (the) Milan (area), which means passing near the town of Como. All of those are places where you could rent a car.

Traveling north on the eastern edge of Lake Como is something I never hear anyone mention here, but someone must have done it. I wonder if it would be a reason that you would want to stay in Varenna instead of Bellagio, especially if you plan on traveling to this area more than once.

Best wishes,

Rex

We are getting private transfers from train in Como to Bellagio because it is late at night. A few days later, we would like to drive to visit relatives. Already have reservations made, so cannot stay in Varenna. So, Como is the closest car rental location?

Well, Avis and Europcar have locations there, to name two. Check with www.autoeurope.com for what may be the best available rates. You can get from Bellagio to Como by ferry.

An alternative to Como would be Lecco (Avis) or Galbiate (Europcar).

Hope this helps ...

Thanks for help. I will have to check ferry schedule from Bellagio to Lecco to pick up car, compared to Como. Find the ferry schedule very confusing...must learn Italian!!

Mamma - I'm not sure there is a ferry to Lecco. You would take one to Varenna - from where Lecco (and Galbiate) are both within 20 mins train ride.

Depending on where you're going NE of Como, you could also rent a car in Sondrio (- accessible by train from Varenna).

Hope this helps ...
