Car rental in Avignon TGV station

Hello,
I arrive at the Avignon TGV station at 10:30pm on a Monday. The problem is that I need to rent a car and all the car rental places are closed. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get to the Luberon region.

Can you reschedule your train so that it arrives earlier, or perhaps the next morning? I took a TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon and picked up my car at the Avignon TGV station but that was at 5:00 PM. In the event you can't take an earlier train or arrive the next AM, you may be able to take a cab into Avignon and spend the night at a hotel then head for the Luberon the next day.

Kind of poor planning to arrive at that time if you need to rent a car. It's not like a major internatinal airport, you know.

There are hotels next to Avignon TGV if you need to spend the night.

You did not explain why you need to get to the Luberon that night at 11:30 to midnight.

Can you take public transportation from CDG to the Gare de Lyon in Paris, have dinner at the Train Bleu, stay overnight at the Terminus Hotel, and then take an early TGV to Avignon on Tuesday?

Maybe Florezi is not coming from Paris, but perhaps coming from another country via Nice, etc.?

>>Maybe Florezi is not coming from Paris,<<

Good point.

Where are you coming from ???

Wherever coming from, it doesn't matter, there isn't any good way to get to the Luberon at 11 pm if you don't have a car. Buses have convoluted routes but they stop around 8 pm, anyway (buses from Avignon to Bonnieux, for example).

I'd just cool my jets and stay in Avignon for the night, I don't see the purpose of trying to get to the Luberon at midnight. Because if that were achieved, you could never get a car the next day, either, in some small town.

I think the only solution is a taxi (or private car) which I'm sure will cost a bundle. If one is staying at a hotel in the Luberon somewhere, you could ask them if they know of any private driver who would be willing to meet you for some flat fare and drive you to the Luberon at 11 pm. I'm sure it will be a high flat fare, though.

Here's a company that says they will drive you "anywhere you want" from Avignon http://www.avignon-provence-taxi.com...servicesen.php

Here's another, they charge about 100 euro from Avignon to Nimes, so that's some guideline http://www.taximinibusavignon.com/en/

Christina, I agree that the dilemma remains the same regardless of where he/she is arriving from; simply pointing out that he/she may be coming from a great distance and did not have much choice in arrival time.

I also agree that spending the night in Avignon makes most sense.

Here is an actual answer to your question rather than advice on how to rebook your existing plans:

Go to the SNCF website and look for the link for special packages. The railway and Avis have a scheme whereby a rail employee will look after the rental formalities when the Avis office is closed.
