Car Rental at Pisa?

Does anyone know how easy rental car pick up will be at the Pisa airport? Is the airport outside the city proper? We wanted to pick up in Sienna and drop at Orvieto, but so far it looks like rentals are not available in those smaller towns. Experience Fordorites? Thanks!

Huh? No rentals in Siena or Orvieto? Avis - - - - has both, as well as Pisa. How will you get there? Train? I don't know my way around the train stations in either city, so I don't know if these addresses will help you or not.

I also don't know what it means when it says (Terni) after Orvieto.

Grazie mille, Rex! I thought there had to be options in these towns!

You're welcome.

And while "merci millefois" is correct in French, I believe that you have it backwards for colloquial Italian - - it should be "mille grazie", shouldn't it?

De rien,

You might want to look at picking up the car in Pisa town vs. the airport. I've found that there's a 12% surcharge for picking up a car at an Italian airport (but no charge to drop it there!). Depending on how long you rent the car for, the cost of a taxi into town may be less than the surcharge. I'm going in and out of Bologna this fall, and I will be taking a taxi from the airport to the auto rental pickup.

If you decide to pick up a car at the Pisa airport you can be assured that it's easy. The airport isn't that large, the car rental places are right outside the door. No need to take a shuttle bus. However, the roads to the airport through Pisa are not very well marked so you have to be vigilant for signs.

Hi Dayle,

There is quite a useful site we found called where you can compare the car rental rates from lots of different companies and book online. We used this service last year and found it excellent. You do need to pick up and drop off the car at the airport though (it doesn't have to be the same airport!). Hope this helps and enjoy Italy - a wonderful country!

Best wishes,
