Car Rental Assistance Please
 

Renting a car in Italy for Oct 9-15th. Renting in Venice, dropping off in Rome. The best rate I've gotten is for a Ford Focus Wagon and Fiat Stilo Wagon. The agent tells me I might not be able to fit 4 people plus 4 suitcases in it. Any one out there who has rented one of these vehicle and can give me some advice?

We recently had a Ford Focus Wagon in Italy and Yes, your agent is correct (dependent on the size of those suitcases of course).

They will show you the cars and recommended capacity.

Also, AE usually betters other agencies' rates.

I have a Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix), about the size of the focus wagon. It will seat 4 adults, but 4 large suitcases would be two too many.

It can handle 2 large and 2 small.

I think we will have 3 21" cases plus 1 26" case. Plus carry on bags

Besides the 3 small-ish suitcase, 1 large suitcase, plus 4 carry-ons, and probably a handbag or two, during the trip you'll also have assorted shopping bags, picnic supplies, souviners . . . You wouldn't have enough space starting out and will have even less space as you go.

You want a trunk large enough to hold <u>everything</u> since you don't want anything visible when the car is parked.
