Car rental
Hi just wanted a quick clarification. We are planning to hire a car for tuscany and am referring to autoeurope and kemwel websites.
Their rates are comparable However, Autoeurope mentions Rate with following insurance package Insurances Package Rate Includes: Liability Insurance Fire Insurance Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - with deductible Theft Protection (TP) - with deductible Unlimited Miles And kemwel mentions No insurance excess (deductible) C.D.W. Deductible: EUR 0.00. Theft Insurance Deductible: EUR 0.00. Theft Insurance Coverage: Included in all rates. Liability insurance: Included in all rates. Liability ins. coverage: Maximum of approx. EUR 25,000,000.00 per accident. What does "No insurance excess (deductible)" mean? Is that better? What should I be choosing? Has anyone had a bad experience dealing with either. |
An excess or deductible, means that in the event of a claim you pay a fixed preset amount towards the total cost of the loss or damage.
No excess is therefore better. Both companies are brokers and well established. However, I've found that if you check the usual large company websites you can often find better rates than with brokers. |
It means no deductible. It's what I prefer.
I have used both and had good experiences each time. They are brokers, so your actual rental will be with a car rental company. I have found that Kemwel usually has produced better rates (esp with no deductible) in Italy. I recommend that even after you book and pay (you will receive a voucher for your rental), keep checking prices every day. If the price drops then you can get a credit for the difference. Here's some good info for renting and driving in Italy- http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/driving/index.htm |
Autoeurope also has no insurance excess rates for rentals in Tuscany. They are either way down the list of cars (since the listing is by price) or you have the search option set not to show them. As you might expect, no insurance excess rates are higher.

Hi BH,
Kemwel and AE are associated. You get the same service. In general, Kemwel's rates are lower than AE's. ((I)) |
Thanks everyone...zoecat that link was very helpful :)
