Car Rental

Ciao, going to Positano in Oct for a week with my wife and the next week going to Tuscany.
My current plan is to rent a car in Salerno through Auto Europe Cars and spend a few days in Sienna ( have a hotel with parking ) , then 2 in Umbria ( not booked yet ) and then drive to the Rome airport, drop off the car and cab it back into the city center and book a nice hotel for our last 2 days.
I have checked and can do the Salerno pick up, drop off at the Rome aiport deal. Any suggestions to do otherwise or does it sound like a decent plan ?

Thanks - Canadian Guy

Why hed south to Salerno when yuor trip is towards the north. Get a car in Sorento instead and at least you're going inthe right direction.

Thought I would be closer to the main highway, isnt Sorento still away from the main hiways?

Mikey, you are correct. One of the most direct routes in order to reach the highway would be to rent your car in Salerno...or you could see if there is a rental office in Vietri sur Mare, which is just West of Salerno...if you are trying to avoid driving the Amalfi Coast road...on the other hand, in October it should not be a difficult drive as it would be during high tourist season.
Equally, there is a coastal road that runs north you could take out of Sorrento which isn't as "hair raising" as the stretch between Positano and Maiori and at least gets you going in the right direction...but it is not a highway until you reach the Salerno-Napoli Autostrada (E45) which eventually puts you on the A1 before you ever get to Naples.

I agree that Sorrento is easier from Positano. About the same distance, but you are further north at that point.

Thanks, sounds like Salerno is where I will be renting the car, I will have a driver/cab take us there anyway.
Auto Europe Cars have a good reputation ?
