Car Rental

Has anyone used the car rental firm ttcar for rentals in France?

Thanks!

TT is not a car rental service, but car leasing - you 'buy' the car, and the company, Renault or Peugeot buys it back from you when you leave. You get a fully insured, brand new car which may be cheaper than a rental car, particularly if you are rentign for a reasonably long period - usually between 17-21 days adn 6 monts.

Sorry, I posted by mistake when I thought I was doing a spell check. We have been very happy with the lease/buyback services we have used, but they are not always cheaper than rentals. Another thing to check is who is allowed to drive - usually the person who signs the contract and his/her partner, but not always another couple if there are 4 in your party.

Carlux's comments are accurate, but often people are scared of that phrase "buy and sell back". Although that is technically how it is termed, it really isn't like that. It's all part of a tax exemption available only to those from outside the European union. It allows the company to sell the car in theory, but no one pays sales tax since foreigners are exempt. Then when the car has been used for 17 days or more, it can be sold without tax since used cars aren't taxed the same. When you "lease" this way, it is no different to you than any other rental or lease plan would be -- you really don't have to worry about "selling the car back".

In any case, one of the main advantages of getting a car this way is that all insurance is included -- even a zero deductible, and as we found out, even a cracked windshield is included.

Thanks. Sorry for the confusion TTCAR.COM has a rental service dba Key Services Intl. Their rates appear to be better than the Hertz, Avis, etc and I was trying to see is anyone here was familiar with them.

Hi KL,

Have you checked rates at www.novacarhire.com

We have used ttcar to lease out of CDG and they are most professional and courteous. Car and paperwork ready and waiting--in 20 minutes you're on your way.

We have nothing but positive experiences with leasing; and we can't say that about renting. There are no hidden costs.

I do note in getting ready to make next vacation's arrangements, however, that the requisite 17 day lease may now have been upped to 21 days, at least at Renault.
