Car or Train to Pompeii?

I have been to the trenitalia.com website and cannot figure out which is the best way to travel to Pompeii from our hotel in Rome (we are staying at the Hilton Cavalieri). Can someone kindly advise me the best way to travel? I would rent a car however we are 6 people: 3 adults (one being a grandmother) and 3 children and the cars are too small there. I have not researched minivan costs but I am assuming they are exorbitant. Then I worry about city traffic traveling there would eat into our visit compared to a train.

I saw there was a promotion dueperuno (2for1) promotion for 33 Euros on Eurostar to Naples. Is that what we want to do? But then how do you get to Pompeii? I noticed on the website that there were different symbols for different types of trains but did not understand what it is.

Anyone with experience, your advice would be so appreciated. And please advise if there are good, child friendly restaurants to enhance our visit there! Is Herculaneum a must?

Hi KM,

You take the train from Rome TE to Naples Ventrale (Garibaldi), go downstairs to the Circumvesuviana line and get off at Pompei Scavi.

Bring hats and plenty of water.

You can find a tour guide at Pompei.

Have a nice day.
