Car or Bus in Croatia?

Which would be the most efficient/convenient? We are flying to Dubrovnik - 1st night in Split, next 2 nights in Hvar, and last 3 nights in Dubrovnik.

I know we don't *need* a car, but would it make the short time we have there more efficient, or would it just be a hindrance? As of now, we plan on bussing to Split after arrival, ferry round trip to Hvar from Split, then bussing back to Dubrovnik.

Have you checked out the time from the airport to Split--it may not be easy.
I doubt if you want a car.

If you don't need a car or even want a car in any of these places -- and believe me, you don't, since there is no place to park -- you will be a lot better off taking a bus between them. There isn't a lot that you would be getting off the road for on your route.

If you were going to Pitlivice and on to Zagreb or touring Istria, that would be a different story.

For a trip of this duration, I do not think you'll need a car. It can be relaxing (to me anyway) to take a scenic ride after a long flight, and the buses are comfortable.
While on Hvar, it is possible you may want to explore the island, and you could do a day rental.
You could do the same from Dubrovnik for a day trip, but otherwise you will not a need a car (you an also take boat day trips).

yes - I know it's about 5 hours from the airport to Split, I was just thinking that we could stop in Cavtat or Ston or somewhere along the way for lunch at our leisure on the way to Split since we'll be getting into Split late anyway. The bus isn't any faster than a car, so I'm not looking for a faster way - just more freedom I guess.

Then I read here and heard from others that having a car on Hvar is actually a good thing so as to explore the island (though not necessary). Then we were thinking of driving to Kotor for one of the days in Dubrovnik. This is why the car idea came up. But it seems like the bus will probably win.

This will not be our 1st stop in Europe btw, we will have already been in Europe for a week relaxing, so jetlag will not really be an issue. Thanks guys.
